Ahem.
Sweet is love when all is sane
Sweet is death to end the pain
Cruel is death when all is well
Cruel is love when all is hell
YEAH! BAM! UNGH! [:hip thrust:]
Sweet is love when all is sane
Sweet is death to end the pain
Cruel is death when all is well
Cruel is love when all is hell

After weeks of debate I plunked down the money for the Firefly DVD collection. I was not sure about it, even though I am a fan of the creator. Fox thought it was so bad they took it off the air after 12 episodes.
Hmmphff. Doesn't sound too good does it ?
So I watched the 4 disc set and thoroughly enjoyed it. It took a couple of episodes to get the feel for the characters (9 main ones)...but it was worth it in the end. I also like the commentaries on some of the episodes. It was readily apparent that though the series was way past canceled when the commentaries were done, that the cast and crew enjoyed being on the show. The DVD set includes three episodes that were never even aired. They are good ones too.
Part western, part sci-fi with unique story telling from Whedon and other writers and directors from BtVS and Angel. There are even a couple actors that appear in all three series. One of the more clever points to mention is that 500 years in the future there are 2 super powers left and one is China. So everybody can speak Chinese. So off handed comments and expletives are said in Chinese by the actors. [Bun tyen-shung duh ee-dway-ro]
Very different and very cool.
All this and mister Whedon was able to buy the rights and go to a different studio and make a feature length film of Firefly. His first, actually.
For a program that was axed in its infancy, it has to be decent enough for Universal to pick it up and for all the cast members to come back and play their parts 2 years after the show ended.
I'll let you know what I think when it comes out in September.

Couple favorite quotes to end this entry:
Jayne (Adam Baldwin):
"Do you know what the chain of command is here? It's the chain I go get and beat you with to show you who's in command."
-
Book: "I am a Shepherd. Folks like a man of God."
Mal: "No, they don't. Men of God make everyone feel guilty and judged."

My soul is wrapped in harsh repose,
Midnight descends in raven-colored clothes,
But soft... behold!
A sunlight beam
Butting a swath of glimmering gleam.
My heart expands,
'tis grown a bulge in it,
Inspired by your beauty...
Effulgent.

You know that even if you enjoy your job, there are days that just define the word 'suck'. I'm generally a people person and my current job requires that I have to be. But sometimes I have an off day where I slept wrong, didn't sleep enough, or watched Season 3 of The Shield when I should of been sleeping... this means a herculean attempt to be a people person the next day when all I want to do is hunker down at home with some food.
I think I do a good job fooling people though.

Hooters. Yep Hooters. Haven't been to one since a business trip to Long Beaaatch years ago for SID. Went there for dinner this evening. The wings are still tasty and the BBQ sandwich wasn't too bad. My cholesterol level will thank me at a later date. And the scenery ? Pretty much what you would expect: 80's aerobic fashion with a hint of porn.
Times change but I believe in my heart that Hooters does not. They still serve only beer and wine. Oh well...

Still waiting for my Shuffle from Amazon.... But there seems to be a lack of extras for this thing. Same old stuff is available but nothing much new except for what Apple offers....Even tried the new ipod search engine.

In early January I was at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Vegas. First off, 6 nights/7 days in that town is just plain wrong. One of the cooler sights was the HP booth with free airbrush tattooing. Kind of odd to see women drop trou in the middle of a tradeshow.... but hey - 1st rule of vegas -- no one talks about what happens in vegas.
Tattooing comes of age at CES (well, barely)

Basically, a friend of mine purports that I would be a swell blogger. I don't really think so. I have issues.
